Gift Guide: Meaningful Gifts for New Babies and Parents

Posted by Danforth Pewter on Nov 20th 2024

Honor the joy of a new baby in the house with a Christmas gift. You want to give something useful, maybe something that is helpful to the parents—but it’s also a special time to give something meaningful that will be used and cherished year after year. Since Danforth has been a go-to for new baby gifts for decades, we want to share some ideas that customers have shared with us. We value making items that are timeless, durable, and that will become part of your everyday.

Pewter Baby Cups, Dishes, and Spoons

"One of the first gifts we received when my daughter was born was a  pewter baby cup with her initials engraved on it. When she was tiny she loved having her own, special cup to drink from…it was a motivator for brushing her teeth as a toddler, since she loved using it. It’s been dropped, banged, and well-loved—but 16 years later, she still uses it every day!"

Babies and toddlers are motivated by the promise of something special…a chance to use a certain dish and spoon can go a long way to convincing them to eat that suspicious green food.

Mark the Occasion

Add baby’s birth date to an ornament to honor their first Christmas. Even exhausted parents will enjoy a sweet reminder of this time in baby’s life! As the child gets older, they will love being able to hang the ornament…

"In our house, almost every ornament we hang comes with a story, and decorating the tree is a time to reminisce, laugh, and tell stories."

Traditions that Grow With Them

Creating a tradition with a young child in your life—a grandchild, godchild, niece, nephew—can be a chance to bond and share excitement, year after year. Even as they enter their teenage years, my kids attach special meaning to the gifts their grandparents have given them that come out for special occasions.

Birthday Trains

The Danforth Birthday Train is a fun one that literally grows each year. Start with the  Engine...add a One for the first birthday...etc. Customers love adding a number each year; it makes a great table decoration and is a great alternative way to have kids blow out candles.

Toothfairy Boxes

Losing teeth is such an important milestone! Give a toothfairy box to a kid who is approaching that age…these little boxes are sure to put a smile on their face every time they lose a tooth.

Remember the Parents

One of the best gifts you can give to new parents is the gift of time…time to go out without kids, offers to babysit, a night away, dinner out…if you’re close by and can help out in any of these ways, the parents are sure to be (very) appreciative!

There are some small ways you can celebrate the occasion of baby’s first Christmas that are very special for the parents. One idea is to engrave one of our Lodge Family oil lamps with a meaningful date or message. The parents can dream of having a quiet evening sitting and reading by the light of the oil lamp.

We love these sweet little parent-child duos in our netsukes collection. As little collectible animals, they are an unexpected and touching stocking stuffer.
